Configurações de liberdade em cartas de alforria de Catalão-Goiás (1861-1876)

2019
In this study, we discuss how the manumission was configured in the city of Catalao, between the years of 1861 and 1876. Therefore, according to the norms proposed by Megale e Toledo Neto (2006), we edited semi-automatically 10 (ten) manuscripts registered in this period, constituents of a book from Cartorio do 2o Officio - Tabelionato de Catalao. After editing, we identify the types and documentary species of manuscripts, as Bellotto (2002), and discoursed about the different types of manumission used in slaveholding Brazil, using authors such as Santos (2008). Finally, we discussed about the different interpretations of manumission practices in that period and possible conceptions of freedom in Catalao in the slavery era, relating them to the historical moment in which the city was inserted, the 19th century, supported by authors such as Pedro (2009), Ferraz (2010), among others. When investigate the cultural and historical factors comprehended by the manuscripts, we rely on the third function of Philology, the transcendent function, proposed by Spina (1977).
