Study on the Drought Resistance of Seven Ground-cover Plants of Liliaceae

2012
[Objective] To provide references for the selection of drought-resistant ground-cover plants.[Method] Seven common ground-cover plants of Liliaceae were selected from South China, their physiochemical indices, including the permanent wilting rate, leaf water-losing rate, relative water content, electric conductivity, malondialdehyde content, soluble sugar content, and free proline content, were determined under the condition of soil water stress for respectively 0 d,7 d,14 d,21 d and 28 d.Their drought resistance was comprehensively evaluated with the method of membership function.[Result] The permanent wilting rate of all seven test plants was below the low level of 15%;with the increasing soil water stress, the relative leaf water content of all seven plants declined to certain extent, while the relative conductivity and MDA content all showed increasing trend;the changes of soluble sugar content and free proline content were not totally same in the seven plants, from which it can be projected that the plants had great potential for drought resistance.[Conclusion] The strongest drought resistance was found in Ophiopogon japonicus var.nana, then followed by Asparagus cohcinchinensis(Lour.)Merr,Aspidistra elatior Blume and Dianella ensifolia(Linn.)DC'Silvery Stripe',and the drought resistance of Chlorophytum comosum(Thunb.)Baker 'Variegatum' and Hemerocallis×hybrida'Stella deoro' was moderate, while that of Dianella ensifolia(Linn.)DC.was relatively weak.
