Dehydrogenation of organic compound and catalyst therefor

1993
PURPOSE: To provide a process for efficiently dehydrogenating an organic compound capable of being dehydrogenated by allowing the organic compound capable of being dehydrogenated and hydrogen to alternatively pass through endothermic catalytic dehydrogenation zones and exothermic catalytic oxidation zones to react under a specific condition, and to provide monoolefins in a high conversion. CONSTITUTION: A feed material such as alkanes, and hydrogen are alternatively passed through endothermic catalytic dehydrogenation zones 14, 18 and 22, and one or more exothermic catalytic oxidation zones 16 and 20 to bringing the heated feed material containing an organic material capable of being dehydrogenated into contact with a dehydrogenation catalyst in the dehydrogenation zones to provide hydrogen and a dehydrogenated product, and the hydrogen and the dehydrogenated hydrocarbon product is brought into contact with an oxidation catalyst and an oxygen-containing gas to selectively oxidize the hydrogen and to generate heat. The oxidized product and unreacted gas is allowed to flow from the oxidation zones to the dehydrogenation zones to provide the additional hydrogen and dehydrogenated product, and the dehydrogenated product is removed from one or more of the oxidation zones. Water and the hydrogen is separated from the product, and a part of the hydrogen is recycled to the dehydrogenation zones to dehydrate the organic compound capable of being dehydrated in the process for dehydrogenating the organic compound.
