A problem solving teaching guide based on a procedure intertwined with a teaching model

2011
The difficulties Computer Science (CS) students encounter with solving problems have been documented extensively. The literature in CS education (CSE) provides many successful ways to enhance students' performance in problem-solving. Nevertheless, those difficulties have been reported to persist. This has prompted us to develop a Problem-Solving Teaching Guide (PSTG) that emphasizes a structured teaching model. This PSTG was used by our undergraduate university instructors. We investigated its effect on students' performance and documented students' attitudes towards the PSTG.
