Catalytic conversion of COS for gas cleanup

1984
Carbonyl sulphide is always present in the process gas leaving the gasifier in plants based on the partial oxidation of sulphur-containing coal or oil, and its concentration may be unacceptably high for the downstream purification units. A catalyst has been developed for the hydrolysis of COS to H/sub 2/S. Its performance is reported. The catalyst is currently in use at TVA's Muscle Shoals ammonia plant.
