Structure and Magnetic Properties of SmFe_(11-x)Mn_xTi Compounds

The effect of Mn substitution for Fe in SmFe11Ti on the structure and magnetic properties of compounds was investigated.SmFe11-xMnxTi samples(x=2.0,3.0,4.0,5.0,6.0) were prepared by vacuum arc-melting and subsequent vacuum annealing.The structure and magnetic properties of SmFe11-xMnxTi compounds were studied by X-ray powder diffraction and magnetic properties measurements.The following conclusions have been obtained: all the SmFe11-xMnxTi compounds with 2.0≤x≤6.0 crystallize in the ThMn12-type structure,and the unit-cell volume increases monotonically with the increase of Mn concentration.For these compounds,below a certain temperature,spontaneous magnetization occurs.The Curie temperature and the magnetic moment of the transition-metal sublattice of SmFe11-xMnxTi compounds decrease monotonically with the increase of Mn concentration.The saturation magnetic moment at 4.4 K also decreases monotonically.
