Photocatalytic properties of two POM-templated organic–inorganic hybrid compounds

Abstract Reported are the rational synthesis, structures and properties of two novel organic–inorganic hybrid compounds, [Ag 3 (3-bpo) 4 (PMo 12 O 40 )]·~ 1.5H 2 O ( 1 ) and [Ag 4 (3-bpo) 2 (CH 3 CN) 2 (SiW 12 O 40 )] ( 2 ), where 3-bpo = 2,5-bis(3-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole. Crystal structural analysis indicates that compound 1 exhibits one dimensional zigzag chains with the discrete [PMo 12 O 40 ] 3 − anions as guest molecules. While in compound 2 the POM anions as μ 2 -linkage bridging two chains construct supramolecular sheet. Both compounds were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and TG. Furthermore, the excellent photocatalytic activity of compounds 1 – 2 was investigated under UV light irradiation.
