A Hierarchical Fuzzy Method for Power-Electronic Inverter Evaluation

2019
Inverters are made up of electronic components that are used to interfaces the direct current (DC) system with the alternative current (AC) system. Many companies offer varieties of inverters with equivalent functionality but with numerous variations in term of topologies and technologies. Due to the vast availability, it is increasingly difficult for the customers to decide the optimal type of inverter for an intended application. This study will propose an inverter evaluation process, based on their technological readiness, cost, weight and their compliance with the type of certifications and standards. Fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) is used to establish the quantitative and qualitative weights of the inverter’s evaluation criteria based on the experts’ knowledge. These weights are then coupled with the customer’s requirement weights to make the selection. FAHP can address the uncertainty present in the decision-making process and the case studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the approach on the inverter evaluation.
