Theme of loneliness in shakespeare’s play king lear

2020
King Lear is one of the greatest tragedies written by Shakespeare in the year 1606. The play is about the King who is transferred from the mighty king, who is surrounded by people, who love him to the ordinary person of loneliness due to, his flaw in judging his children. It is the story about a king who loses his property, kingship, and more importantly his loving daughter. His judgment of error makes him believe the wrong daughters it leads to the loss of everything he possesses including his loving daughter Cordelia. Earl of Gloucester also faces the same problem which is parallel to the problem faced by King Lear. Gloucester’s illegitimate son Edmund tricks him to believe that legitimate son is trying to kill him. He too does the same mistake of believing the wrong son and disowns Edgar. As a result of wrong judgment, both were stripped off from their status and wander in the forest, and finally, King Lear and Cordelia die. So, what I am going to say in this article is that loneliness is one of the main Theme in this play which is represented by two important characters King Lear and Gloucester. King Lear is isolated from his daughter emotionally Cordelia and Gloucester are also isolated from his son Edgar and some other characters also feel loneliness in this play.
