Growing Maritime Security in Ocean Policy

2021
The ocean is a crucial global commons, which provides human beings with various benefits such as mineral and fisheries resources, transportation routes, and stable global climates. In order to govern this global commons, the UN has introduced and developed maritime legal systems under the Law of Sea. At the same time, the ocean is a source of international conflict as it is directly linked to national security in the form of sovereign territories, the securing of natural resources and sea lines of communication (SLOC), and naval exercises.
