A Dual-Band Antenna Array with Mutual Coupling Reduction Using 3D Metamaterial Structures

We propose a dual-band antenna array with low coupling by using dual-band 3-dimension (3D) metamaterial array. The proposed dual-band MIMO array contains two microstrip patch antennas, a 3D metamaterial decoupling array and a common ground plane. The metamaterial structure and patch antennas are designed on different layers. The distance between the two layers is 0.2mm, and the 3D dual-band metamaterial structure is utilized and loaded on the top of the antenna. The effectiveness of the designed MIMO array is evaluated by using the HFSS. Simulation results show that the metamaterial can effectively reduce the mutual coupling between the antenna elements, which makes it suitable for dual-band MIMO communication applications.
