Ecografía mamaria: nuestra experiencia y sus indicaciones actuales
2007
Objective: To share our experience in breast ultrasound and to review its indications. Material and Methods: We studied 311 patients during February 2007, using a Toshiba Capasee ultrasound equipment. Results: The average age was 42 years old. In 52% of the cases the study was performed as a routine control. In these patients 72% of the ultrasounds showed no alterations. In those who came for other reasons, only 33,6% were considered normal. Considering age, women younger than 40 had normal studies in most cases. Women without personal history of breast cancer had normal studies in 73,9% of cases. Conclusion: Breast ultrasound is most useful in women with clinical abnormalities, personal history of breast cancer and age over 40.
