Drive test measurement be tween Maxis 2G and 3G networks in Uitm Shah Alam campus

2013
In telecommunications, Received Signal Strength (RSS) defines as a measurement of the power present in a received radio signal. Users are likely to expect uninterrupted, efficient and stable service starting from the day their subscribe into the network. For these reasons, in order to provide uninterrupted service, it is required to do the performance testing. The main focus of research in this paper is to analysing the captured data of RSS and signal quality of Maxis network provider in the campus of UiTM Shah Alam. As everyone knows, Maxis is one of the Malaysia's biggest integrated communications that provides a variety of mobile communication products and services. So, it is necessary for the Maxis provider to provide a good and less disruption service to the users since it is one of top service network provider in Malaysia. This research is done by using the NEMO Handy device as the tools and methods for the test drive measurement and the data collected then being analysed by using the software named NEMO Outdoor 6. The measurement is taken in the morning, afternoon and evening in three fine days and one data collection in raining day to see any variation in the RSS at different times and different conditions. From the result obtained, the best performance of RSS for Maxis network provider in UiTM Shah Alam Campus is 3G networks and for signal quality, 2G network has a better performance compared to 3G network.
