Nebulization-assisted liquid sample injection coupling with cataluminescence for real-time monitoring of chemical reaction process

2022
Abstract The nebulization-assisted sample injection (NASI) coupling with cataluminescence (CTL) was developed. The NASI enables liquid sample evaporation and self-pumping injection for downstream analysis. NASI-CTL not only can be applied to analysis liquid samples directly, but also performs stronger signals with better reproducibility capable. The “enhancement factor” (EF) was defined as a dimensionless quantity to characterize the NASI-CTL response. The nebulizer contributed an about 3.52 EF by using acetaldehyde as model analytes. Based on both the computational fluid dynamics simulation and laboratory results, the optimally designed vaporization chamber obtained a final EF of 7.86. The repeatability and long-time stability of NASI-CTL were studied, satisfied RSDs 2.9% and 3.7% were obtained, and a complete NASI-CTL analysis process can be accomplished in 20 s. Furthermore, the applicability of NASI-CTL was confirmed by introducing 25 different targets and reacting in the presence of 7 different catalysts include six commercials and one lab-prepared. Finally, the NASI-CTL was applied to wine fermentation monitoring by measuring the contents of acetaldehyde. The good accuracy was proved by comparing with the results of high-performance liquid chromatography. Overall, the NASI-CTL not only provided a rapid and efficiency process monitoring method on chemical reaction, but also expanded the application scope of CTL.
