The invention relates to a filter material, in particular for the filtration of liquids, wherein the filter material is impregnated on only one side with binders in such a manner that the opposite side is free of binder and the proportion of the dried binder in the total weight of the filter material 0.5-50 wt .-% by weight. With the inventive filter material high filtration rates are achieved at a high service life. The invention also relates to a filter element comprising filter material of the invention. Further aspects of the invention does not relate to the use of the inventive filter material for filtering liquids and a process for the separation of two immiscible liquids with one another, wherein the liquids are passed through the filter material according to the invention.
