Effect of Salt Stress on Sprouting and Emergence of Rice

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of salt stress on rice sprouting and emergence using 123 rice cultivars in pure water,100 mmol/L NaCl and 150 mmol/L NaCl solutions.The results showed that the germination began later in treatment 2 and treatment 3 than in treatment1 and the sprouting percentages were 94.24%,95.08% and 85.91%,respectively and emergence percentages were 90.21%,95.08% and 0,respectively in treatment 1,treatment 2 and treatment 3.The affecting degree varied among rice cultivars in sprouting percentage and emergence percentage under salt stress and the difference of rice cultivars are the basis for salt stress tolerance breeding.
