Remedial Training with Learning Objects to Reduce Dyslexia in Children

We present a proposal for reduction of Dyslexia in children including protocol and findings; the protocol does not include a diagnostic phase for purposes of classification or searching for pathologies, we use a remedial training instead in order to configure a user model of strengths and weaknesses for a well-balanced instructional plan. The protocol phases are as follows: remedial training (as diagnostic and information collecting), configuration of a user model, planning of instructional plan based on user model, plan implementation, evaluation. The proposal is a kind of remedial training based on computer, many scientific research publications demonstrating that remedial training as a viable solution to reduction of Dyslexia. The findings are very similar to previous studies about that computer software has been a viable support of remedial training; studies refers to many points where remedial training could be useful, the first one is training in phonological structure of the words in the native language to reach a minimal level of phonological awareness; The best recommendation is training in phonological awareness before to learn to read and write; training in phonological awareness seems to have many benefits in reduction of Dyslexia and increment of reading skills [1]. The proposal reports favorable results using Testing Effect, which is a concept of cognitive psychology that enhanced long-term memory known; Testing effect had not been commonly associated as a remedial training for Dyslexia but many studies in other areas have shown promising results in basic operations like reading, writing and learning. Testing effect enhances long-term memory by doing many tests, this process of retrieving makes the information more retrievable even in long-term compared to simply studying. To implement this proposal we did use an electronic format content known as Learning Objects. Learning Object has many benefits like interoperability because it is a piece of software that can be easily read by many electronical dispositive and can contain an activity of assessment of learning as quizzes or tests. That is the particularities and philosophy of Learning Object as technology of contents. During this first phase (diagnostic), the goal of using Learning Object was testing of word recognition with test of multiple option. In this study, there is not a phonological awareness training, the testing was with one person only who is a 9 years old boy, and the training was useful and get higher results in word recognition within this context. The goal of use a remedial training supported with computer is to reduce absence from school and integrate the individual into any society activity that include reading and writing.
