An Assessment of Fe-Mn-Al Alloys as Substitutes for Stainless Steels

1985
This paper details a study by U.S. Bureau of Mines, which examined the properties of Fe-Mn-Al alloys compared with austenitic stainless steels. Problems were encountered in melting, casting and cutting the alloy. However, they could be easily hot worked, and they had good mechanical properties unless aged. Neither alloy tested exhibited good oxidation resistance during mild thermal cycling tests.
