Quantum spin state transitions in the spin-1 equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet Na 2 BaNi ( PO 4 ) 2
2021
We have grown single crystals of Na$_2$BaNi(PO$_4$)$_2$, a new spin-1 (for Ni$^{2+}$ ions) equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet, and performed magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and thermal conductivity measurements at ultralow temperatures. The results show a magnetic ordering at 430 mK with a weak ferromagnetic moment along the $c$ axis and a 1/3 magnetization plateau with a magnetic field applied along the $c$ axis, both of which suggest an easy-axis anisotropy. The magnetic phase diagrams for $B \parallel c$ and $B \parallel a$ are constructed, both of which show successive spin state transitions.
