Future Needs of Horticultural Genetic Resources Conservation and Its Improved Use with that Focus on Livelihood Improvement and Income Generation in Rural India

2019
In the foregoing chapters, the plant resources for health, nutrition, and for aesthetic and how to manage them for benefits to farmers and society were described in greater detail with specific examples along with methods and ex situ conservation tools for improving conservation and utilization of HGR. In this chapter, we try to analyze and synthesize the issues in relation to management and conservation of HGR. For any conservation strategy to succeed, all stake holders need to involve and also there is a need to be linked to livelihood. The motivation for diversity conservation involving the custodian farmers gives a new dimension for in situ on-farm conservation of many fruit crops and some new hope. The future needs and priorities are also discussed at length.
