Development and Experimental Validation of Advanced Dynamic Vehicle Simulation (ADVS)

1994
A dynamic light-vehicle computer simulation capable of simulating all phases of vehicle motion is presented and experimentally validated. The Advanced Dynamic Vehicle Simulation (ADVS) is derived using the Lagrange equations of motion in quasi-velocities and is able to accurately simulate the motion of vehicles under acceleration or braking, in turns or spinning out, and even while rolling over due to a maneuver or a roadside tripping obstacle. The ADVS is experimentally validated using a variety of vehicles, on-road and off-road maneuvers, and testing and vehicle-loading conditions. The validations show that the ADVS performs excellently when simulating the behavior of a variety of light vehicles in maneuvers ranging from the modest turn with braking to the most severe curb-tripped rollover.
