The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a feed rate at which liquid material from a pivotable output vessel (4) in a metallurgical target vessel (6) is filled. For this purpose, means for determining a quantity of liquid material in the exit vessel (4) is filled, is provided, as well as means for detecting an amount of the liquid material, which by pivoting of the starting vessel (4) in the direction of the target vessel (6) is discharged or introduced into the target vessel (6).
