CT Findings of Pulmonary Sequestration: An Analysis of 9 Cases

2004
Objective To analyze CT manifestations of pulmonary sequestration and to make a further understanding of the disease. Materials and Methods Nine cases with pathologically proved pulmonary sequestration were collected. Both plain and thin-slice enhanced CT scanning were performed in all cases. CT features were observed and analyzed. Results In all 9 cases the lesion was located in the posterior basal segment of the lower lobe. The lesion was cystic-solid in 5, cystic in 2 and solid in 2 cases. Abnormal systemic feeding arteries were revealed on thin-slice enhanced scans. Conclusion The main CT sign of the pulmonary sequestration is a soft-tissue shadow, which is located at the posterior basal segment of the lower lobe and presented as a cystic, or solid, or cystic-solid mass. The diagnosis can be confirmed when systemic feeding arteries are demonstrated on enhanced CT scans. Thin-slice enhanced CT scanning can improve the displaying rate of the abnormal feeding arteries.
