The last radiographer in America.
1997
On a superficial level, the “Terminator” movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger simply appear to be two more in a long series of action/science-fiction movies. However, the plots of the two movies describe two very different visions of the future. In “Terminator,” a chain of events unfolds because no one prevents it from occurring; in “Terminator II,” the future is altered because someone takes control and sets certain events in motion. In the final column for this series of articles looking at radiology’s second century, we present two interviews with “The Last Radiographer,” both set in the year 2020. The first interview may be compared to the first “Terminator” move — it’s a vision of a world gone mad, all because 2Oth century radiographers did not seek to influence and control the world around them. In the second interview, radiographers have shaped their own future and formed a whole new class of health care professionals —radiology’s version of “Terminator II”.
