A CASE OF INTUSSUSCEPTION SECONDARY TO METASTASIS OF THE JEJUNUM FROM THE LUNG CANCER

A 64-year-old male developed intussusception due to jejunal metastasis from lung cancer which was operated on 4 months earlier, and a jejunal resection was performed. After the laparotomy, the patient was able to perform oral intake. But he died of brain metastasis on the 31st day. Forty-two cases which underwent laparotomy for small bowel metastases from the lung cancer have been reported in Japan. The survival period following laparotomy was at the longest of 12 months and about 80% of the patients died within 6 months. Although lung cancer metastases to the small bowel indicate a poor prognosis, surgical therapy is necessary for gaining better quality of life.
