Regulation of temperature resistivity characteristics of insulating epoxy composite by incorporating positive temperature coefficient material

2020
In this work, positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material, as a functional filler to compensate the negative temperature coefficient of DC electrical resistivity of epoxy resin, is studied. As the temperature rises above the Curie temperature, the PTC material increases the DC electrical resistivity of epoxy composites when compared to neat epoxy. At 110°C, the DC electrical resistivity of the epoxy composites is found to be 252.6% of the neat epoxy. Dielectric spectroscopy is used to analyze the mechanism of the PTC on epoxy composites. This paper shows that PTC material has the potential to regulate the DC electrical resistivity-temperature characteristic of polymeric insulating materials.
