Study the effect of chemotherapy on nitric oxide, superoxide dismutase, oxygen free radical and malonic aldehyde in peripheral blood of patients with acute leukemia

2003
Objective:To study the effect of chemotherapy on nitric oxide(NO),superoxide dismutase(SOD),oxygen free radical(OFR) and malonic aldehyde(MDA) in peripheral blood of patients with acute leukemia(AL).Methods:Colorymetries were used to determine NO,SOD,OFR and MDA levels in peripheral blood of 46 patients and 30 normal controls. Results:The level of NO was no significant difference in peripheral blood between the patients with acute leukemia and controls(P0.05).The levels of SOD and OFR in peripheral blood of the patients were significantly lower than that of controls(P0.01),and the level of MDA in peripheral blood of patients before treatments was significantly higher than that of controls(P0.01).The chemotherapy drugs had no significantly difference on the levels of NO,SOD,OFR and MDA in peripheral blood of patients with AL in all periods(P0.05).Conclusion:The effect of NO on the process of patients fall ill with acute leukemia is yet to be discussed. The changes of SOD,OFR and MDA indicated that they participated in the occurrence of AL.The chemotherapy drugs had no significantly different effect on the levels of NO,SOD,OFR and MDA in peripheral blood of patients with acute leukemia.
