Relationship between PAI-1 activity and metabolic syndrome

The activity of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) was measured by chromogenic substance method and 4G/5G allele polymorphism in PAI-1 gene promoter region was assayed by PCR in 160 patients with metabolic syndrome and 90 controls. The results showed that increased PAI-1 activity was one ofthe characteristicsof metabolic syndrome.The presence of the 4G allele of PAI-1 gene and elevatedblood glucose and triglyceride concentrations were associated with increasedlevel of PAI-1 activity.
