Soil physical principles

1992
The purpose of installing land drains in soils is to remove water in order to improve soil physical conditions for agricultural production and for engineering operations. The problem facing the drainage engineer is therefore one of the physics of water flow through both saturated and unsaturated soils, caused by physical conditions at the soil surface and at the drain peripheries.
