The 1:2 Host-Guest Inclusion Complex of 1,1,2,2-Tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethane with 2-Ethyl-4-methylimidazole

The crystal structure of the title organic 1:2 inclusion complex was determined. It was crystallized in monoclinic space group of P21/c, Z = 4, a = 17.3516(10)A, b = 13.4628(13)A, c = 19.0518(11)A, β = 133.064(3)°, V = 3251.5(4)A3. The O-H…O hydrogen bonds between the phenol moieties support the host framework. The guest 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole is accommodated in the cavity of the host framework by N-H…O and NH+…O- hydrogen bonds. This inclusion structure effectively stabilizes the curing accelerator molecule, 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole, in the crystal, and realizes long pot life of epoxy resin.
