Effective Current Dipole Model of CA1 Hippocampus Pyramidal Neurons in Rat

2014
Magnetic field detection around certain neurons could be used as a method for more localized study of the human brain activity. Many researchers investigated neural magnetic field (NMF) with the fixed current-length dipole models. This simple model cannot consider the complex morphology and time varying current in the neurons. Also calculation of magnetic field around real neuron, because of its numerous extensions, is time consuming. In the present research, we proposed a realistic based dipole model which generates more similar NMF to the actual model. We simulated membrane potential based on bio-physiological properties of CA1 hippocampus pyramidal neurons in rat. We defined the effective dipole with the effective length and the effective position and the effective current parameters for each neuron to calculate the NMF around neuron. Based on the calculation of cross correlation between the NMF of realistic neuron and effective neuron, it proposed the effective dipole model have a good similarity pattern with a realistic model.
