MECHANICAL AND TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF PA66/PPS BLENDS (I)

2003
A series of PA66/PPS blends were prepared using co-rotating twin-screw extruder. The tribological properties of materials were studied. It is found that 80%φ(PA66)/20%φ(PPS) blend exhibits the best tribological properties. The morphologies of transfer films and its elements distributions were investigated using SEM and EDS. The analysis results revealed that PA66 formed a non-uniform and discontinuous adhesive transfer film on steel counterface, while PPS did not. PA66 in blend system enhanced the ability of PPS to form transfer film on counterface. The thermal control of friction model was applicable for PA66/PPS blend; wear of materials was governed by their ability to form transfer film and the properties of transfer film.
