Evaluation and characterization of phenalkamine resin based bio-composite laminates with silver nano particles as reinforcing material

2020
The fabrications of phenalkamine resin based bio-composite laminates which are eco-sustainable are prepared with addition of silver nano particles using hand lay-up method. Prepared bio-composites samples were characterized by using mechanical tests such as tensile, compression, flexural tests, Inter laminar shear strength (ILSS) and with surface morphology using SEM. In this experimentation, it is found that by adding 10gms of silver nano particles mixed in phenalkamine resin impregnated on a 15 layered silk fabrics laminate, there was drastic increase in tensile strength and flexural strength and Inter laminar shear strength. Eventually there was decrease in compression strength due to the ductile behavior by the silver nano particles. From SEM analysis it is observed that from 15 layered silk fabrics based silver nano bio-green composite specimen, the silver nano particles were haven't changed their particle size and due to this there is a strong bond between fabric and resin matrix with intact capabilities. Overall the prepared specimen of 15 layered silk fabrics based silver nano bio-green composite laminate shows enhanced mechanical properties compared to 15 layered silk fabrics without silver nano particles based bio-green composite laminate.
