The present paper tries an approach to religious brotherhoods through the correspondence dispatched to the several synds which were convened by bishop Rojas y Sandoval of Cordova. During his episcopate the doctrine of the just closed Council of Trent promoted an increasing rise of brotherhood’ institutions made up by lay people
