STUDY OF MISOPROSTOL FOR THE PREVENTION OF POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE IN VAGINAL DELIVERY

2011
Objective To observe the effects of misoprostol for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage(PPH) in vaginal delivery. Methods Two hundreds pregnant women, who have high risk factors for PPH,were randomized into two groups:misoprostol group(n=100),given 200ug sublingual misoprostol immediately after fetal disengagement, control group(n=100),given 10 IU intravenous oxytocin immediately after delivery of the neonate. To observe duration of the third stage labour, the amount of bleeding within two hours after delivery and bleeding rate between the two groups. At the same time to measure and record changes in blood pressure before and after sublingual misoprostol and adverse effects. Results Duration of the third stage labour, the amount of bleeding within two hours after delivery and bleeding rate was significantly lower in the misoprostol group than in the oxytocin group(p0.01).There was no significant difference on blood pressure before and after sublingual misoprostol and side effect between the two groups(p0.05).Conclusion Misoprostol appears to be more effective in reduction of PPH than that of oxytocin.Sublingual administration is more convenient and suitable for primary hospital.
