Theoretical study of the magnetoelastic damping of oscillations in a ferromagnet II. Large stresses and large magnetic fields

1970
1. The equation of [1] for the F and H dependences of the internal friction Q−1 due to magnetoelastic hysteresis has been extended to the region of large F and H through an approximation based on a treatment of experimental data. 2. The H and F dependences of Q−1 given by this equation have been analyzed, and expressions have been obtained for the amplitude Fm at which the amplitude magnetic peak is observed and for the field Hm at which the field magnetic peak is observed. The analytic conditions for the appearance of the field magnetic peak have been established, as have the dependences of its parameters-the internal friction ΔQ−1 and the field Hm-on the elastic-vibration amplitude F and other factors. 3. Certain coefficients characterizing the magnetic properties of the material, particularly for nickel, can be calculated from the equation obtained. 4. The theoretical H and F dependences of Q−1 have been calculated and shown to compare satisfactorily with experiment. 5. A physical interpretation of these dependences is offered on the basis of a physical model proposed earlier for the behavior of the magnetoelastic damping of vibrations.
