The journal editor invited me to have a rant about current agricultural issues. Rather than doing it through my own eyes I have used a letter from Cathy to her contemporaries on the occasion of their 10th reunion to explain her views on the role of an organisation of fellow professionals in enhancing her career and the need to bridge the gap between the real 'agriculture' and current ill-informed community perceptions. Cathy is a figment of my imagination.
