Fringing Effect in the Integration of Electro-optic Device

2007
Integration of optical systems is important in practical application for enhanced compactness and stability, particularly for electro-optic devices. The field distribution is the main factor that can affect the characteristics of electro-optic devices.A mathematical model is presented to characterize the field distribution of finite-size parallel electrodes, and then the general formulation of the electrode charge, the electrode capacitance and the electric field intensity can be obtained. On this basis fringing effects are analyzed and the distance between neighboring electrodes are discussed to avoid the cross talk in integrated electro-optic devices, which is useful for correct design of integration.
