The use of oral contraceptives (OCs) in combination with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in women with epilepsy (WWE) can lower efficiency both in terms of, for example, seizure deterioration and unintended pregnancies. We investigated the bidirectional interactions of progestins in OCs and monotherapy with lamotrigine (LTG), valproate (VPA) or carbamazepine (CBZ). The goal was to investigate the impact of these interactions in general and additionally to analyze differences in AED serum levels during intake.
