2010
Nevalainen, Juha The possibilities of music in dementia nursing – instruction for nurses. 57 p., 1 appendice. Language: Finnish. Helsinki, Autumn, 2010. Diaconia University of Applied Sciences. Degree Programme in Nursing. Degree: Nurse. This is practice-based thesis which aims to develop a guide about therapeutic use of music for nurses who work with dementia patients. The thesis process consisted of generating an idea, designing, implementation and releasing the thesis. The theory is collected from literature, magazines, newspapers, internet and music therapy studies in Sibelius Academy. Practice-based of the thesis consist of demonstrations about therapeutic use of music I lead. The methods I chose for the practice-based part was singing and listening to music, because they are generally the easiest way to produce music. The most important conclusion I noticed was this kind of therapeutical use of music is needed. It would not replace the old but could be a new tool for rehabilitating nursing.
