Dispersion Technology and Its Simulation

Dispersion quality plays a key role in the processing and product quality of fiber reinforced composites. Process control on the dispersing process in terms of a predictable product quality and required run times as well as their scalability are crucial for the production of fiber reinforced composites. In this chapter, an overview on available dispersing methods is given for the production of fiber reinforced composites. Advantages and weaknesses of the respective dispersing methods are discussed and related to their stress mechanism. The simulation and modeling of such dispersing processes is discussed and strategies are outlined to obtain the data necessary to describe them entirely. Examples on how to parameterize such simulations based on simulations on a lower size and time scale as well as based on experiments and material parameters are given.
