One-dimensional dose measurement with string-shaped photo-stimulated luminescence detector

We developed a long and bendable string-shaped photo-stimulated luminescence detector (PSLD) with a 2 mm diameter. This PSLD was made from a mixture of PSL particles, BaFBr:Eu 2+ , and transparent thermoplastic resin and fabricated using a filament extruder. The maximum ratio of BaFBr:Eu 2+ to resin by weight was 10%. In a performance test, the PSLD was partly exposed to X-rays. The one-dimensional (1-D) dose profile of the PSLD was obtained successfully using a PSL reader. The spatial resolution (full width at half maximum, FWHM) was approximately 5 mm. In an application example, the depth-dose profile of a storage pool equipped with a 102 TBq 60 Co gamma ray source was successfully measured with the PSLD. This indicated that the PSLD was useful for 1-D dose measurement and applications in various fields, such as radiation engineering and radiotherapy.
