A distributed-arrangement linear motor (1), wherein said stators (10, 10B) are arranged in a distributed manner and a method for controlling the distributed arrangement linear motor (1) are provided. The linear motor (1) is a linear motor (1), in which a stator (10, 10B) and a movable member (20) are relatively movable, wherein the stator (10, 10B) and the movable member (20) periodic structures having in which multiple types of poles (12a, 12b, 12c), (22a, 22b) of the stator (10, 10B) and the movable member (20) which act magnetically on each other, are periodically arranged to follow each other in an order according to the arrangement in a direction of relative movement between them; a plurality of stators (10, 10B) are arranged in a distributed way in the direction of relative movement; a distance (D1, D2) between adjacent stators (10, 10B) is not greater than a length of the movable member (20); is the pole of the stator (10, 10B) or the pole of the movable element (20) from a coil (11) is formed; and a power control unit which controls the current to the coil based on the distance (D1, D2) between the stators (10, 10B) is to be provided is provided.
