A Medium to Differentiate Rice and Non-rice Strains of Acidovorax avenae subsp. avenae

1999
A new medium, designated as GANA (Glucose and Acetamide-amended Nutrient Agar), was developed to differentiate rice and non-rice strains of Acidovorax avenae subsp. avenae. The medium was composed of glucose 2g, acetamide 2g, nutrient broth (Difco) 8g, bromothymol blue 50mg and agar 18g in 1000ml of distilled water and adjusted to pH 7.2. On the medium, rice strain (MAFF 301505) was differentiated from non-rice strains (MAFF 301027 and MAFF 301149) by colony color and form. Plating efficiency of A. avenae subsp. avenae on the GANA medium against nutrient agar medium was about 60-110%.
