Clinical significance of intracranial pressure monitoring in severe craniocerebral injury

2006
Objective To observe the changes of intracranial pressure (ICP) in severe craniocerebral injury, and to explore the roles of continuous ICP monitoring in treatment of severe craniocerebral injury. Methods Sixty two cases of patients with severe craniocerebral injury were divided randomly into two groups, including ICP monitoring group and routine treatment group. In ICP monitoring group, the treatment methods were adjusted duly according to the changes of ICP, whereas, the patients in routine treatment group underwent neurosurgical routine treatment according to the doctor's experience. Results The complications, duration and dosage of dehydrant application were all less than those in routine treatment group (P0.01). The ICP monitoring group had better prognosis than the routine treatment group (P0.01).Conclusion Continuous ICP monitoring in severe craniocerebral injury benefits on directing and adjusting treatment properly, reduces the complications, and improves the prognosis.
