Water quality research: An overview of areas of concern

Several major water quality research areas are currently receiving considerable public and scientific attention. This review assesses present knowledge and understanding of water quality problems and attempts to relate these to research capabilities, needs, and changing priorities. The analysis is admittedly not exhaustive. The selectivity in the topics discussed reflects current relevance and, to some extent, the expertise and interest of those contributing to this treatise.
