Evaluation of Multi-slice CT Virtual Endoscopy in Detecting Gastric Carcinoma

2004
Objective To evaluate multi-slice CT virtual endoscopy (CTVE) in the clinical diagnosis of gastric carcinoma.Materials and Methods CTVE was performed in 40 patients with suspected gastric carcinoma. CTVE findings were compared with pathologic and electron endoscopic results. The preparation, scanning parameters and 3D post-processing technique were discussed. The diagnostic consistency between CTVE and endoscopy or pathology was assessed. The effect of different image reconstruction on the visualization of the lesion was evaluated. Results The sensitivity, specificity, correctness, missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis of CTVE for gastric tumors were 97%, 75%, 95%, 3% and 25%, respectively. The positive predictive value and negative predictive value of CTVE were 97% and 72%, respectively. Conclusion Multi-slice CTVE with multiple reconstruction imaging and combination with original image is of great value in clinical diagnosis of gastric carcinoma.
