PALM TREE FRONDS FOR CONCRETE ROOF REINFORCEMENT

1992
This article notes that the high tensile and compressive strength, low thermal conductivity, light weight, resistance to corrosion, and abundance of palm trees fronds (PTF), can be utilized to replace steel reinforcement in concrete roofs to build economical and efficient one and two storey houses. Preliminary tests and studies on PTF show that it has advantages over steel for reinforcing concrete roof slabs. This article discusses the mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and cost and availability of PTF.
