Metamorphism and deformation in Alpine Corsica
1994
This paper attempts to summarize structural and petrologic data collected over a period of fifteen years by several groups of geologists in Alpine Corsica. The lithostratigraphic, metamorphic and structural features of the different nappes are briefly reviewed. Amongst successive episodes of thrusting, attention is devoted to the Upper Cretaceous (neo-Alpine) events. The importance of mechanical transpositions is emphasized, in order to explain the apparent discrepancy between the mineralogic memory of early events (Upper Cretaceous to Eocene), and the strong imprint of late deformation stages (Upper Eocene to Miocene) on prominent structures
