CONJUGAR EL CUERPO: UN ABORDAJE POSIBLE PARA EL AUTISMO

2015
CONJUGATING THE BODY: A POSSIBLE APPROACH FOR AUTISM Arturo is fourteen. He does not speak. He sits with his hands on his lap without looking. This work is the assembly and development, for four years, of a play space that I read from psychoanalysis. Arturo’s body was silent. It was a continuum with no room for anyone else. After many meetings, fortuitous situations occurred between us. The irst time Arturo was making movements with his inger on his lap. I sat down sideways from him and made movements as well. I enlarged my movements, he perceived this and modiied his own movements making them bigger as well. This way of approaching him was established. Sitting sideways from him, moving my ingers on my lap, meeting his gaze sideways. I call these articulations particularities. They cut parts in the continuum and articulate new combinations. They are cuts in the silence that Arturo reads giving new answers. There are now two bodies in continuity. Arturo’s body combines with the body of work, i.e. the set of particularities that are established. The silence is broken, the body parts are articulated in motion. The cut gives place to the phoneme. The articulation of phonemes places the name: “ARTURO”.
